Champiagn Regional Science Olympiad Competition

SYNOPSIS:

The Champaign Regional Science Olympiad Competition was held at Urbana Middle School on Saturday, March 5, 2005. Several CIAMS members, Joe Brewer, Mike Wilson, and Mike Spinar, gave the Meteorology Exam portion from 10:00 until 10:50 am. They had also written the test, so it was a unique opportunity to see how well the kids did.

Overall, it was very impressive how well the kids did. They all seemed to have fun. In fact, one group even told us how much they enjoyed the exam relative to several others they had taken. It was enjoyable to watch the kids looking through introductory meteorology textbooks and paging through station model diagrams. The first kids to finish took about 30 minutes, and all groups except one finished all 15 regular questions and the two bonus ones. The scores ranged from a low of 47 percent to a high of 84 percent. A copy of the exam will be attached after the competition concludes.
